[Wild Adriatic is] a band with loads of talent to share with the world. They have spot on vocals, great instrumentation, and songs that would burn up the charts.”
Radio friendly songs that stay with you long after the music is over.
It is this fantastic integration of homage to their predecessors, yet original flair and diversity, which keep them interesting, and keep me listening.
Wild Adriatic is a four piece band comprised of some of the Upstate New York areaʼs finest talent. Centralized in Saratoga Springs, NY, the band began in 2009 when vocalist/guitarist Travis Gray approached guitarist Shane Gilman and two other local musicians to form a band, then named Travis Gray and the Frontiers. The band quickly took to the road, hitting stages throughout the Northeast supporting bands such as Third Eye Blind, OK Go, and Robert Francis at sold out venues such as the Roseland Ballroom in New York City and many more.
In late 2010, the group decided to rebrand themselves as a full fledged band with the new moniker Wild Adriatic, and went into the studio to pump out a brand new 5 song EP with producer/engineer John Naclerio (Brand New, Steel Train, My Chemical Romance). The result was “The Lion” EP, which was released in February 2011 to much acclaim, with the band’s single “Love and Loss” quickly hitting regional radio giant WEQX and college radio throughout the Northeast. Shortly thereafter, Gray and Gilman recruited longtime friends Mateo Vosganian and Rich Derbyshire to take over drum and bass duties for the band.
The band’s lineup solidified, they refocused their efforts on honing an impressive live show earning them praise with concertgoers and press alike as the live show became one of the most revered in the region. In a recent article, David King, staff writer at the Metroland (the Capital Region’s premier alternative newspaper), touted the band’s live show as “a pure expression of their musical abilities, but also a joyous celebration of music for musicʼs sake.” Between Gray and Gilman’s dualing guitar approach, Gray’s impeccable vocals, and the one two punch of old school soul and big rock beats provided by Derbyshire and Vosganian, the band never leaves a head unturned.
A self classified rock and roll band with definitive pop and soul leanings, the four members have been gigging together in various bands since their early teens. Vosganian and Gray formed their first band together as high school students in 2000 and continued touring with that group through 2005, when college pulled them in different directions. Gilman weened his chops through his early years by playing in several classic rock bands, taking hints from the classic bands he was imitating while developing his own meticulous playing style. Before joining the band, Derbyshire was playing lead guitar in a local hardcore band until he began looking elsewhere for creative satisfaction and stumbled upon the opportunity to take over on bass with Wild Adriatic.
With their combined experience touring and recording throughout the world for 10+ years each, the group has made quite a name for themselves throughout the East Coast and beyond. What was once a folky acoustic solo project has turned into a full fledged, impressively tight force to be reckoned with. Now, with the band’s newest record [“The Lion” EP] officially released via physical copy and iTunes digital download, the band stands poised to refocus their attentions on touring and promoting throughout the United States and beyond.
